Abstract
A magnetorheological damper (MRD) is popularly applied for vibration control owing to its fast response and wide adjustable range of damping force. In most traditional MRDs, the magnetic circuit shape is a closed rectangle, resulting in a short effective working length and a small output damping force. To solve the above problems, a novel full-channel effective MRD with shunt and bending magnetic circuit (FEMRD_SB) is proposed and fabricated, and a particular magnetic circuit theoretical analysis method is given. The FEMRD_SB guides the magnetic circuit to shunt through magnetic rings and forces the magnetic circuit to bend through magneto-resistant rings. The magnetic circuit shuttles back and forth in the damping channel, increasing the effective working length and the output damping force. Additionally, diverting the magnetic circuit before it bends can reduce the magnetic leakage problem caused by the magnetic field line passing directly through magneto-resistant rings and increase the input current's energy efficiency. The effectiveness of the proposed FEMRD_SB is verified by electromagnetic finite element simulation and damping experiments. The results show that the proposed FEMRD_SB has greater damping force under a smaller structure size. The Back Propagation neural network inverse model of FEMRD_SB is established and applied to an off-road vehicle. The results show that the FEMRD_SB can significantly improve the ride comfort of the vehicle.
